A very simple email template for Mailchimp

Why do people choose MailChimp? It is simple, has a user friendly interface and is low-cost to start. Plus they rave about their “flexible design” drag and drop designer to create campaigns.

But should bloggers send these beautiful email templates that may hurt their business?

An alternative to MailChimp would be ConvertKit. It was designed for bloggers and their products, as well as to solve all the problems with Mailchimp. ConvertKit found that simpler emails that look like they were written by an actual person preform a lot better.

But if you are like I was, you may not want to spend $30+ per month before you even begin your list of subscribers, which is why I created Dear Friend, my MailChimp email template that will allow you to create a simple human email campaign.

Less format, more content.

The best way to market online is to deliver valuable content to your audience to build trust and eventually enable them to purchase from you. When you send an email, the most valuable element is the content. Not all the beautiful headers you spent hours designing, nor your logos, multi-columns, or backgrounds. They don’t deliver value like your actual content does. So why not focus on a template that will best engage your audience?

If you went through your inbox, you would notice that the emails you actually open and read in their entirety are the emails that come from an individual. Those emails aren’t created with fancy templates and you read those before opening those mass emails from big companies that you’d rather ignore.

Create the plain emails, not the emails that look like promotions you throw in the trash.

A clean minimal formatted email will emphasize your content and create a more personal connection with your audience.

Not just any plain email will work. You won’t receive any value from sending your list a BCC Gmail email because open tracking and click tracking are really important to measure. You also don’t want to send a plain-text campaign that won’t allow basic formatting like bold, italics, images, and clean, clickable links.

Start stress-free.

MailChimp is the most effective way to get started. It offers a free service and can grow as you build your list. If you are a new blogger, you can signup for a free account for up to 2,000 subscribers and you will be up and running, costing you zero dollars to start your list. Once it is time to upgrade, MailChimp is reasonably priced. They even offer a pay-as-you-go plan for smaller lists that need automation since the free account does not include it.

Think of Mailchimp as your beginning step. After your list begins to grow and your products begin to sell, you will be able to move on to bigger and better services like ConvertKit.

Over-styled, multi-column formatting may pull the reader’s attention away from your message. With Dear Friend, you can now send a minimal email that is read by your subscribers with your free MailChimp account that appeals to new bloggers and online business owners.
